Launch event of the Portuguese/Italian bilingual book “Flora Brasileira: Memorias 1819-1828 – Giuseppe Raddi”, held at the Rio de Janeiro Botanical Garden.
Giuseppe Raddi – Brazilian Flora, organized by the National Academy of Sciences known as XL https://www.accademiaxl.it and published in its first edition in 1974/75 only in Italian by IILA – Organization International Ítalo-Latin Americana https://www.iila.org, on the occasion of the celebrations of the centenary of Italian agricultural immigration to Brazil, this second edition will feature the originality and audacity of the National Academy of Sciences of Italy in publishing it in Portuguese, thanks to the Bicentennial of the Independence of Brazil, allowing access to this information and knowledge to a wider audience, thus honoring Brazilians and people who master the Portuguese language, becoming the first edition in the Portuguese language.
This edition presents updated taxonomic nomenclatures, as well as a description of the collection of specimens and plants studied and described by Giuseppe Raddi, with their phytotherapeutic properties noted, including an updated glossary and images specially provided by photographer Sebastião Salgado.
Giuseppe Raddi, considered the father of ecology in Italy and responsible for the first publication on Brazilian tropical plants, the result of his passage to Brazil, where he accompanied the princess consort Leopoldina, as a member of the Austrian expedition in 1817.
